How much do I really need?

How long should I stay on PreCare Premier® after delivery?
I know that folic acid is important, but are there differences among
prenatal choices?
PreCare Premier® prenatal vitamins provide 1 mg of folic acid — the standard of care for prescription prenatal vitamins. Only folic acid has been clinically proven to reduce neural tube defects (NTDs) - and it's effect is dose-related. (21) Be sure and check the label for 1 mg of folic acid. Some commonly prescribed prenatal vitamins may contain significantly reduced amounts of folic acid. (22, 23) Prevention of neural tube defects (NTDs) is proven only with folic acid, not with other folate sources. (17) Tell your physician that you want the full 1 mg of folic acid, and make sure you check the label to be sure that it says “folic acid……1 mg”, such as that found in PreCare Premier.
Is there anything that can help me with constipation during pregnancy?
At some point during pregnancy, you may experience constipation, which is common for many women. It's nearly unavoidable because hormonal changes cause food to pass through your body more slowly. PreCare Premier® provides 50 mg of docusate sodium to help reduce constipation. (6)

I've heard that iron is important, but that too much can cause nausea or constipation.  How much do I really need?

During pregnancy, your iron needs increase to meet the demands of your developing baby. Sometimes the fatigue women experience during pregnancy is actually due to anemia. Many pregnant women will need to supplement even their high-iron foods with a prenatal vitamin containing iron. (38) The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend 30 mg per day of iron during pregnancy. (8) PreCare Premier® provides 30 mg of iron. Some prenatal vitamins contain 90 mg of iron- more than two times the tolerable upper limit. Iron can sometimes be hard to absorb, so talk to your healthcare provider about PreCare Premier that offers the CDC recommended amount of iron.

Are B vitamins important during pregnancy?
PreCare Premier® is formulated with high levels of the B vitamins, essential to
the mother’s health and well being. (22) The B vitamins contained in PreCare Premier consist of thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), vitamin B6, B12 and folic acid. Thiamine
is essential for your baby’s brain development. Riboflavin promotes your baby’s bone, muscle and nerve development. Niacin is necessary for healthy nervous system and brain function. Vitamin B6 is vital to your baby’s developing brain and nervous system, because it helps form new red blood cells and B12 also helps form and regenerate red blood cells
as well as increase energy. Additionally, one of the most important of all the B vitamins is folic acid. PreCare Premier contains 1 mg of folic acid — which is the standard of care for prescription prenatal vitamins.

I am hoping to become pregnant this year. Is it too soon to start taking
a prenatal vitamin?
Many physicians recommend that women begin supplementing their dietary nutrition
with prenatal vitamins at least 3 months prior to conception. This is important not only
for the folic acid, but also for other nutrients such as those that can be found in
PreCare Premier®. Many pregnancies are not planned and any woman of childbearing
age, especially those planning a pregnancy, can benefit from folic acid supplementa-
tion. PreCare Premier is an excellent choice for nutritional support before preg-
nancy, during pregnancy, and beyond. Be sure to ask for your healthcare provider’s
recommendation.
How long should I stay on PreCare Premier® after delivery?
PreCare Premier® can be taken before, during and after pregnancy. Essential nutri-
ents, such as iron, can be depleted during pregnancy and during the birthing process.
Talk with your doctor about continuing PreCare Premier after delivery.
